He is a first generation of Vietnamese-Canadian, and was part of the wave of "boat people" that escaped Vietnam. His work expresses the feeling of displacement of experiencing two opposite cultures. He has taught drawing, painting, and foundations at Wichita State University and the University of Kansas as a visiting artist. He has been included in juried and solo exhibitions.
